FUTURE OF CRAFT - Design Collaborations

The Future of Craft incubation program provides emerging artists and designers with the opportunity to collaborate in an ethical and meaningful way with local and international heritage practitioners, craftspeople and artisans. The key outcomes of the program are a small-scale production of a marketable product or system, a unique design narrative inspired by local heritage and culture, and the preservation of key knowledge sets through the continuation of cultural practices.

EXPLORATION-ENGAGMENT-PRODUCTION
The program aims to stimulate growth in both the design and craft industries, while contributing to a unique national design narrative through engagement with local cultural and heritage practices. The Future of Craft moves participants through the design process, specifically focusing on exploring local inspirations, engaging with local artisans and craftspeople, and producing through local manufacturers with an emphasis on utilizing local materials.

Program Description

Participants will fully engage in an extensive research process, exploring both culture and materials, followed by hands-on prototyping with critical feedback and review processes in order to develop marketable products and solutions. The final showcase of the program will feature products accompanied by the complete and transparent development process, highlighting the power of engaging ethically with culture and interacting with local production and materials through tangible products available to the public.
